The village of SAINT MARCELLIN holds first place in the history of the Vars valley. It certainely is the most ancient village as, not far from there on the way to Guillestre, some objects and jewels dating back to bronze age have been unearthed during excavations.
Embedded on a rocky spur overlooking the valley, the castle, (of which only vestiges of a XIth Century tower remain) and the church, with its XIIIth Century choir, are evidence that people settled there a long time ago.
The temple, rebuilt in the XIVth Century, testifies to a big protestant community.
