Embrun

Clinging to its mountainside, the little Nice of the Alps towers proudly over the valley and a beautiful lake, Lac de Serre-Ponçon. This town with a rich past must have a guardian angel, with its host of cultural gems that are well worth the trip.
You'll love the old citadel whose enclosure walls have long disappeared.
Exploring the town centre and pedestrian streets, you’ll understand the town’s former layout and discover the Tour Brune, the ancient keep in the medieval district.
You can also wander to the Maison des Chanonges, a 13th-century building whose remarkable facade has earned it a place on the historical monuments list. Walk a little further to the old Couvent des Cordeliers to admire the frescoes on the convent walls.
Don’t leave Embrun without visiting the cathedral of Notre Dame du Réal, a real treasure of Gothic art. This is cited as being one of the most remarkable monuments in the Alpes Dauphinoises.

Embrun lake

At the foot of the Roc, Embrun lake is a key recreational site, separated from Lac de Serre-Ponçon and the River Durance only by a dyke with a promenade.

From there you can enjoy beautiful views of the Morgon summit and Mont Guillaume, or make the most of the perfect sun exposure to enjoy a host of activities (watersports centre with canoeing/kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and rowing, floating playground, play area, boules pitch, trampoline, merry-go-round, mini-golf course, tennis club, riding stables, swimming pool, etc.). The gently-sloping lawn beaches are the ideal place for families to enjoy a swim or a picnic or to just relax.

An added bonus: A footpath (2.6 km) invites you to stroll at the water’s edge.
This very popular footpath dotted with seats and picnic tables offers a safe way to explore the beautiful lakeside scenery of this heavenly spot. Walkers can enjoy a whole array of colours that change with the seasons and the time of day.
