Speed skiing, or Kilomètre Lancé, is the fastest sport in the world. On the legendary Chabrières run in Vars, the champions reach dizzying speeds.
Since the early 1990s, Vars has been the mecca of speed on snow. Whether on skis, a bike, a snowboard or even a snowscoot, world records have been set one after another for nearly 30 years on the Chabrières run. The world’s fastest skiers now compete for the world record at speeds of over 250 km/h in the Vars ski area.

The Chabrières couloir is one of the most impressive in the world, commanding great respect from all: a 98 per cent gradient at its summit. The cream of the crop of speed skiers, from all over the world, will once again come to take on the Chabrières run. It has inspired, and continues to inspire, the greatest athletes in their quest for speed and thrills.
Speed skiing is the only non-motorised sport that allows you to go from 0 to 200 km/h in under 6 seconds – an acceleration equivalent to that of a Formula 1 car. A latex suit, a helmet, aerodynamic fins and poles, 2.40-metre skis, plenty of passion, a good dose of courage and a touch of madness… these are the essential ingredients for speed skiing!
At the end of a race full of twists and turns, Simon Billy from Vars was crowned the 2022 speed skiing world champion on home soil. This title cements his World Cup victory from the previous year. The third-fastest skier on the planet now has just one goal in mind: to break the world record and exceed the 255 km/h mark.
