Concert chant polyphonique

The Gloria in D Major RV589, known simply as "Vivaldi's Gloria" due to its popularity, is one of the most famous and widely performed sacred works ever written! The choir, which forms each year in Vars around a major work of the repertoire, is made up of choristers from all over France, with a core of talented regulars. The instrumental ensemble comes from the "Archets du Roy René". Soprano Barbara Bourdarel is taking part as a prelude to her concert on August 10.

It was probably for the women musicians of the Ospedale della Piet in Venice, where he taught violin and composition, that Vivaldi composed his Gloria KV589 around 1716. Vivaldi gave it the form of a sort of religious cantata, willingly diversifying the vocal forces from arias to choruses to ensembles... The genre also always gives pride of place to the orchestra, whose continuo, the obligatory sacred repertoire, calls on the organ. Vivaldi's Gloria, for example, unfolds in 12 sections, highly varied in size, writing and spirit.
