The Val d’Escreins nature reserve offers a magnificent sight before the long winter sleep. Few leaves cover the ground here, but a soft carpet of thorns covers the earth in a soft tawny colour. For the time being, the needles, which are still alive before the winter fall, filter the low-angled rays of the autumn sun. Walks and picnics turn into bucolic visits to exotic natural areas that almost provoke winter, daring it to match such beauty with its white coat.
