The Vars resort has completed its 5-year multi-year plan set from 2019 marked by the creation of the telemix, 2 snow carpets and 3 detachable 6-seater chairlifts: Bois Noir chairlift, Vars Speed Master chairlift and Mayt chairlift. Last winter saw the inauguration of the 2 new fixed-grip 4-seater chairlifts in the Peynier area.

A successful gamble for Vars with more skiing and less time spent on the lifts.

The main objective of this modernisation is to optimise skiing time, which is confirmed by the fact that no lift is taking more than 10 minutes to ascend*.

The last 2

In February, 2 new fixed-grip 4-seater chairlifts replaced the old 2-seater chairlift at Peynier. These 2 new, modern pieces of equipment link the Peynier sector to the Les Claux sector.

With a common departure for both new chairlifts, the Plans chairlift serves as a link to the Les Claux side and the main snow front, the Peynier chairlift provides access to the summit of the same name, the resort’s flagship sector known for its “ski-forêt”.

These new lifts have been accompanied by the creation of new runs accessible to all ski levels: byebye to the frustration for beginners of staying at the bottom of the area to ski on easy runs.

The “grande verte”

The Vars resort is developing an easy route with a sequence of 3 green runs from the top of the Mayt chairlift, freshly inaugurated in winter 2023, to the Vars les Claux snow front.

A total of almost 7km of green runs from the peaks, where the views are breathtaking, to the bottom of the resort, with a vertical drop of 545m.

See skiing in blue

Beginners can enjoy a string of blue runs at an altitude of over 2000m! Starting out frome Chabrières, la Mayt or Peyrol, you can let yourself be guided along gentle slopes and enjoy a “big blue” experience by enjoying the kilometres of pistes while admiring panoramic views. An unprecedented opportunity for unlimited pleasure on the snow-covered peaks of Vars!

TSD Vars Speed Master: 5 min climbFrom Chabrières6.4km downhill / 800m ascent

Accessible since winter 2023 for skiers and pedestrians, theVars Speed Master chairlift propels you directly to within a stone’s throw of the summit of Chabrières (2750m), the highest point of the ski area, with its arrival at 2733m altitude. Literally flying over the Chabrières speed ski run, the scene of all records, it offers a view, if not THE panoramic view of the area once you’re up there: 360° over all the surrounding massifs.

The sequence of 4 blue runs makes for easy skiing all the way to the resort’s snow front and provides a lovely ride of over 6km for a nice 800m vertical drop.

TSD La Mayt: 6 min climbFrom the Mayt7.8km downhill / 545m ascent

From the top of theMayt chairlift, a 100% blue route is accessible via the aptly-named piste des Heureux. A wide run, conducive to big bends, not very steep for accessibility to as many people as possible, it gives way at the halfway point to a path in the forest characteristic of ski touring.

TSD Sainte-Marie + Peyrol: 10 min climbFrom Peyrol8.6km downhill / 895m ascent

On the Sainte-Marie side, the 2 blue runs of Le Vallon and Le Grand Vallon offer a real break from the wilderness during the day’s skiing: calm, silence, forest and mountain pasture farms accompany skiers in search of a peaceful glide over 8.6km and a vertical drop of 895m, finishing in the village of Sainte-Marie.
