At the turn of the century, Le grand-père had developed a "teleluge" above the refuge Napoléon between the Tête de Paneyron and the Pic de Chatelrêt. His small company, later resold, would become what is today the world's ski lift giant: POMA. Mik Orain's parents took over the first ski rental store in Vars (set up by the Attanasio family in 1964, now Orain Sport's main store) and founded Orain Sport. They would manage and serve generations of holidaymakers for 20 years. Mik's father was also the stylist for the huge and exuberant Italian ski champion Alberto Tomba in the 80s. For over 20 years, their son, Mik Orain, has taken up the torch. Mik began competitive skiing at a very early age, when he took up the sport with Carole Montillet as a child (they went to school together and have been friends since the age of 4). It was "thanks" to an injury that he found his calling. Forced to rest, he discovered speed skiing via a film and took part in a small speed skiing competition organized by Cathy Breton, one of the pioneers of the discipline in France. A few years later, Vars created its own impressive speed ski run, the fastest in the world: La Piste de Chabriere. Mik started out as an opener for major international events, and gradually progressed to become one of the world's elite skiers. He was the first to break the 236 km/h barrier in an anthology competition, where the world record was beaten several times. A story that can be found in the stores.
