Green trail


La Décou'verte


Average time: 20 minutes
Trail type: descent
Level: No technical difficulties
Access: Chabrières hybrid lift (Access possible from Sainte-Marie by the 2 chairlifts, then following itinerary E "Jas du Boeuf"
Description: trail reserved exclusively for mountain bikes.
Same departure as the “Marmottons” blue trail. Go around Chabrières reservoir, then follow the signs to the green trail departure point. At the end of the trail, follow the “Pré de Moré” signs back to the resort. This is an introductory trail which is also fun with surprises all the way along, to amuse children and adults alike: crossing a stream, animals, picnic tables etc.

“Les Myrtilles” itinerary


Trail type: Cross country
Average time: 1 1/2 h
Level: not suitable for beginners
Access: Chabrières hybrid lift
Description: At the top of Chabrières hybrid lift, head left and go down to the bottom of the Eyssina ski tow. Turn right onto the combe track, then follow the path to arrive in a grassy valley before a last steep section.



"Vallon des Heureux” itinerary


Characteristics: 4 km, elevation difference: -450m/+90 m.
Trail type: Cross country
Average time: 30 minutes
Level: No real technical difficulty
Access: Chabrières hybrid lift Description: At the top of Chabrières hybrid lift, continue a little way uphill and take the path leading off to the right, then descend to below the Mayt bottom station. Then join the Balcons de Vars trail followed by the Chemin de Pré de Moré.



"Le Jas du boeuf” itinerary

Characteristics: 10 km, elevation difference: -890m.
Trail type: Descent
Average time: 40 minutes
Average time: 2h
Level: Average
Access: Sainte Marie chairlift then Peyrol chairlift
Description: From the top of the Peyrol chairlift, follow the path around La Mayt to the Col des Saluces. At the Col des Saluces, follow the path down the mountain slope below the Chabrières crests.



"Marmottons” trail

Characteristics: 3.5 km, elevation difference: -300/+20m.
Trail type: Descent
Level: Average
Access: Chabrières hybrid lift
Description: Trail reserved exclusively for mountain bikes. Departure gate. Go around the right-hand side of the reservoir. Then follow the path made up of a series of bends, jumps and little bumps to perfect mountain biking in the mountains. At the end of the track, reach the start of the hybrid lift via a 300m shared section


“Les balcons de Vars” itinerary

Trail type: Cross country
Average time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Level: No real technical difficulty
Access: Sainte Marie chairlift
Description: At the top of the Sainte Marie chairlift, take the path to the left which crosses the Lièvre ski tow to arrive at the high-altitude "Le Chal'heureux” restaurant. Go under the footbridge before taking the path that leads back to the resort of Les Claux. There is the option to carry on to get back to Sainte-Marie.



Red trails and itineraries



"Boucle de Peynier” itinerary


Characteristics: 14 km, elevation difference: -600m/+560 m.
Trail type: Cross country
Average time: 3h
Level: Long circuit, technical upon descent
Access: From Les Claux
Description: Leaving Vars les Claux, take the road as far as the Napoleon shelter then join the path that goes to the left. Probably one of the most enjoyable paths in Vars for cross country lovers.

"Le Lièvre” itinerary


Characteristics: 2.5 km, elevation difference: -290m.
Trail type: Enduro
Average time: 15 minutes
Level:Difficult
Access: Sainte Marie chairlift then Peyrol chairlift
Description: From the top of the Peyrol chairlift, follow the Jas du Boeuf trail for 900m to the Col des Saluces, to reach the start. A very beautiful path through pastures alternating between slopes and successions of bends. The arrival is at the intersection with the Vallon des Heureux(D).


“Taillefer” trail


Characteristics: 3 km, elevation difference: -350m.
Trail type: Descent
Level: Difficult
Access:Chabrières hybrid liftDescription:Trail reserved exclusively for mountain bikes.
A short and technical route mapped out by Christian Taillefer. An entirely redesigned trail, a better paced route interspersed with different features on the ground (tables, double bumps etc.)


Vars-Embrun Route


Characteristics: 32km between the top of the Mayt and the banks of the Lac de Serre Ponçon with a height difference of 1,800m

Trail type: Descent

Time: from 1 hour 30 minutes to 3 hours

Level: No great technical difficulty, but lengthy and therefore requires good physical condition (suitable for children aged 10 and over who cycle regularly)

Access: Sainte Marie chairlift then Peyrol chairlift

Description: Smooth-flowing itinerary. In places, the route uses roads open to traffic, on which the highway code applies.




PRACTICAL INFORMATION Shuttle service available from outside Embrun mini-golf course (monday, wednesday and friday)



"Le Vallon” itinerary


Characteristics: 13 km, elevation difference: -794m/90m.
Trail type: Enduro
Average time: 2h
Level: Designed for experienced mountain bikers, quite a technical route in the first part
Access: Sainte-Marie and Peyrol chairlifts then join the start via the Vars-Risoul connection
Description: Reach the Col du Vallon via the connecting path. Follow the route along the stream then continue along the forest path until the second intersection.
Then continue to Vars Sainte Marie via the Forest route(J).


"Le Forest” Route


Characteristics: 11 km, elevation difference: -560m.
Trail type: Descent
Average time: 40 minutes
Level:Not suitable for beginners
Access: Sainte Marie chairlift
Description: When you arrive at the top of the chairlift, take the forest trail to the right until the tarmacked road. Go uphill for about 100 metres towards Risoul, then turn right onto the old track which crosses the road a first time... then follows a path until you reach the road again. Follow the road for 500 metres and follow the right-hand path to the end of the trail.

“La Casse” itinerary


Characteristics:
2km, elevation difference: -398m.
Trail type: Enduro
Average time: 15 minutes
Level: Very difficult
Access: Sainte Marie chairlift then Peyrol chairlift

Description: From the peak of La Mayt, follow the crests on the right to discover a brand new technical single track on scree with lots of slopes in the first part of the trail.
The second is more flowing but still technical.
