Top-level freeriding comes to Vars
At the end of January, Vars reconnects with its history and freeride heritage by hosting a new edition of the South Line Series on the legendary Eyssina face. A benchmark for freeriding in the Southern Alps, this spectacular competition will bring together skiers and snowboarders from all over the world to test their skills on one of the resort’s most stunning slopes.
Part of the international Freeride World Qualifier circuit, the event celebrates the very essence of freeride: creativity, commitment, the ability to read the terrain and technical mastery.
One mountain, one slope, one line to invent
Unlike traditional disciplines, no set route is imposed on the competitors. Each rider must analyse the Eyssina slope, devise their own route and carve out the best possible line by making the most of the mountain’s natural terrain.
Rocky outcrops, couloirs, challenging slopes and variations in terrain all become opportunities for the athletes to express themselves; they are judged on their fluidity, technique, control and creativity.
