Speed skiing world cups

Saturday 21 March 2026

On the legendary Chabrières piste, the best speed skiers reached breathtaking speeds on Saturday 21 March 2026 thanks to their special World Cup equipment.

Vars

The return of ski rockets

Saturday 21 March 2026 Vars hosted two stages of the 2026 World Cup speed skiing event, following an intense week of competition at the World Championships. A third stage was due to be held on Sunday 22 March, but the 15 cm of fresh snow that fell in the morning forced the organisers to cancel the event.

No doubt about it, you couldn’t miss the ski rockets on the Chabrières piste with their highly specific equipment: aerodynamic latex suit to minimise air resistance, 2m40 long skis, helmet, fins and streamlined poles.

Frenchman Simon Billy won his 2nd crystal globe after winning the world speed skiing title the day before. In the women’s category, Valentina Greggio once again proved her ability by winning her 8th crystal globe.
