How to get to Vars

When the time comes to go on holiday, you need to be well organised. To make sure your journey goes off without a hitch, prepare in advance so you can start your long-awaited snow holiday with peace of mind.

Coming to Vars

by car

FromMarseille

Take the A51 motorway towards Gap as far as the La Saulce toll booth, then towards Embrun / Guillestre then Vars.

FromParis

Take the A6 motorway to Lyon, then the A43 to Grenoble. Then head for Briançon via the Col du Lautaret or Gap via the Col Bayard, then Embrun / Guillestre and Vars.

Special Equipment

From 1st November until 31st March, light vehicles, commercial vehicles and motor homes must:

Either have metal or textile snow chains to equip at least two driven wheels, or be fitted with four 3PMSF-certified winter tyres (logo on the side of the tyre representing 3 peaks with a snowflake), whatever the weather conditions.

Coming to Vars

by train

Night train

For overnight journeys between Austerlitz station and Mont-Dauphin / Guillestre station. There are daily shuttle bus connections (for a fee) to the resort.

TGV

From the TGV stations at Marseille / Saint Charles and Aix-en-Provence, take the shuttle bus or TER to Mont-Dauphin / Guillestre station to get to the resort.

TER

From all over France to Mont-Dauphin / Guillestre station, 15 km from the resort. There are daily shuttle bus connections (for a fee) to the resort.

FAQ - Answers to your most frequently asked questions

I want the quickest route from Paris by public transport.
This will be the Paris-Aix TGV journey, followed by the direct Aix TGV-Vars bus service with Neige Express.
Please check the dates of the Aix-Vars shuttle service, which only runs on certain dates.
I don't want to spend all day in transport.
Opt for the train or night bus (Neige Express).
From Paris, leave in the early evening to arrive just before the ski lifts open!
I'm coming with my 3 small children from Aix. What's the easiest way to get to Vars without a car?
There’s no doubt about it, the Neige Express direct link: a coach picks you up at the TGV station and takes you straight to Vars! There’s no connection, so your mind is free and there’s no stress… the perfect way to start your holidays.
I don't have a car and I need to go down to Guillestre during the week. What are my options?
A daily shuttle service takes you down into the valley, particularly to Guillestre and the SNCF station. Timetables vary according to the time of year, so be sure to read the dedicated information sheet.
