Vars Mountain Trail

A look back at the 11th edition

On 25, 26 and 27 July 2025,the resort of Vars vibrated to the rhythm of the 11th edition of the Vars Mountain Trail. On the programme were 5 mountain foot races open to all, awaiting the participants, each more motivated than the last.

A magnificent playground

Demanding routes

With 1150 runners lining up across the 5 race formats and the weather a little temperamental at times, Vars once again vibrated to the rhythm of trail running this weekend.

The resort of the Hautes-Alpes offered a veritable tour of the event, with a variety of high altitude courses designed to show Vars at its best.

A friendly atmosphere, mobilised volunteers, demanding but magnificent courses, not forgetting the runners who responded with enthusiasm and determination. Whether on thelong distances or the formatsmore accessible, everyone drew on their resources to see the adventure through to the end.

Rémi Loubet wins

Challenge 3 Formats

Among the formats on offer over the weekend, the Challenge 3 formats attracted the most daring, ready to string together the three iconic races of the Vars Mountain Trail: the Kilomètre Vertical, the 42km with the Tour des Crêtes and the 10km Foulée du Château. A complete challenge combining explosiveness, endurance and express recovery.

Rémi Loubet, a loyal participant since the very first event in 2014, excelled again this year. At 38, and despite a busy daily life with three young children, he lined up performances with impressive regularity: winning the KV, 3rd place in the 42km, and a new podium finish on Sunday in the 10km, despite accumulated fatigue.

“Today was the last day… It was about time it ended!” he confided at the finish. “The KV went really well, I didn’t think I’d win, and the 42 was a real surprise. The 10km was mentally tough, but I managed to come back little by little.”

Rémi is the perfect embodiment of the spirit of the Vars Mountain Trail: a blend of performance, pleasure and passion for the mountains. A true source of inspiration for all runners, beginners and experienced alike.
