KV de la Mayt

3.7 km / 930 m climb

Friday 25 July 2025

A look back at a whirlwind rise

Explosive KV

This weekend’s 100% trail race kicked off with the most explosive format: the vertical kilometre.

Planned as 3.7km and 930 metres of ascent, the course was finally shortened to 2km and 500m of D+ due to uncertain weather conditions, stopping the runners at the lac de Peyrol.A short but intense climb, which set the tone for the weekend.

Despite this last-minute change, the intensity and effort were definitely there. In a concentrated but friendly atmosphere, the 74 runners registered for the KV gave their all on this climb, which was a real warm-up for the participants in the Challenge 3 formats, or an objective in its own right for others.

KV de la Mayt

Rémi Loubet, in turbo mode

It took Rémi Loubet just 21 minutes and 50 seconds to tame the 500-metre climb of the KV. A regular at the event – he has been taking part in the Vars trail for 11 editions – this year he lined up for theChallenge 3 formats: Kilometre Vertical, 42 km and 10 km.

For him, this dry climb is an excellent warm-up: “It helps you manage your effort, so you don’t set off too fast the next day.“Even though the course was shortened, Rémi was able to adapt his strategy to this more nervous format, which fits in well with his training at the moment.

Nina Thauvin wins

In the women’s race, it was Nina Thauvin who came out on top in 27 minutes and 20 seconds. It was a somewhat unexpected victory for her, who said she was surprised to win this race. As she confided at the finish, “it’s always difficult to get into the swing of things on such a violent effort right from the start“. A fine performance on an intense course that made all the difference from the very first metres.
